ATTRACTIONS
- ★ The Nature Reserve Teutoburger Forest 100m – The Teutoburger Forest gives Bielefeld a unique character. This 446 meter high mountain range is known for the historical “Battle of the Teutoburger Forest” between the Romans and an alliance of Germanic Tribes in the year 9 AD.
One of the most beautiful mountain hikes in Germany – the Hermannsweg – follows the ridge of the Teutoburger Forest right past the Park Inn by Radisson Bielefeld. A total of 4800 hectares of forest and 580 km of hiking routes give the city unique and attractive surroundings.
Further information on the Teutoburger Nature Reserve > - ★ Sparrenburg 1.5km – A trip to the Sparrenburg castle is worthwhile during any season, giving visitors a wonderful view over the university town by the Teutoburger Forest. The extensive castle is located in one of the nicest mountain hiking routes in Germany and is accessible all year round. From April to October the casemate tours give an interesting insight into the underground tunnel system and more than 750 years history. Further information on Sparrenburg >
- ★ Alter Markt 1.5km – In the heart of Bielefeld’s Old Town is the Alter Markt with its impressive historic facades and historischen Fassaden and magnificent gables. The old patrician houses are well worth a visit, especially the Crüwell-Haus with its late gothic crow-stepped gable (1530). In the staircase are 7000 Delft tiles from the 16th to 18th century.
